$1.3 Million Settlement for Brain Injuries After Car Crash
A woman in her early 30s received a $1.3 million settlement after suffering serious brain injuries in a car accident. The crash, caused by a commercial plumbing vehicle rear-ending her, was so severe that she had to be extracted by EMTs.
Although she was taken to the emergency room immediately after the crash, doctors did not perform a brain scan at first. When her headaches continued, she returned to the hospital two days later where CT scans revealed bleeding in her brain. Thankfully, her brain bleeds healed over time and no surgery was necessary. However, she was diagnosed with encephalomalacia as a result of the trauma. This condition occurs when brain tissue softens over time due to injury, potentially leading to permanent changes in brain function. It can also impact the functioning of other organs in the body.
With the help of her lawyer, Justin W. Curcio of Curcio Law in Alexandria, the case was settled for $1.3 million just before it was about to go to trial.
Brain injuries can be tricky to diagnose and often have delayed symptoms. Curcio Law has a Registered Nurse on staff to assist with medically complex cases, ensuring clients receive the compensation they need for both current and anticipated future medical needs.
