We have written before about our membership in the Injury Board (IB), which includes a select group of personal injury lawyers from around the US and UK who advocate for safety and consumer issues and believe in giving back to the communities in which they live and work. All of us are past or present leaders in our state Bar Associations. In addition, each member is committed to constantly improving trial skills and office practices to serve our client’s best interests. Earlier this month, Tom and his wife Gale had the privilege of attending the 2021 IB Summit at the Dove Mountain Resort in Marana, AZ.
This year’s program included multiple presentations on topics ranging from client development, practice management, and professional growth. Talks on client development included handling cases related to your passions, something that Tom does with his representation of injured cyclists. Practice management discussed staff retention and how vital that is to a successful law firm. Professional Growth included a discussion of how one’s view of the practice of law changes, perhaps mellows, as one gets older, and a reminder to focus on the battles that are worth fighting.
These meetings are also about having fun and building relationships with like-minded attorneys from around the country. Tom and Gale attended a dinner under the stars at a local Dude Ranch that was great fun. Also, for his Saturday activity, Tom went mountain biking with fellow IB member Danny Feldman and his wife Muir and got to see some incredible Saguaro cactus.
Not having taken a vacation since before the pandemic, Tom and Gale tacked on a trip to New Mexico before the conference began and spent a few days in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Silver City. If you have not visited the Southwest, the scenery, the sky, and the sunsets are spectacular.
The photo to the left is of Tom (who is not a fan of heights) on a hot air balloon ride!
