Attorney Rakin Hamad: Securing a $300,000 Settlement for a Hit-and-Run Victim

In a recent case involving a hit-and-run incident, attorney Rakin R. Hamad secured a $300,000 settlement for his client. The case involved a pedestrian who was struck while in a crosswalk, resulting in severe injuries.

The victim, a 60-year-old male, was walking home one morning when he was hit by the defendant’s vehicle, which was making a left-hand turn. Shockingly, the defendant fled the scene after the collision.

Upon the arrival of the police and EMTs, the injured pedestrian was taken to Fairfax Hospital. Unfortunately, the victim was unable to provide any identifying information due to a language barrier and his physical condition. As a result, the initial police report contained several errors. In fact, the report incorrectly identified the victim’s brother as the person who had been struck. It was later revealed that facial recognition technology had been used to make this incorrect identification. Additionally, the report incorrectly stated that the victim had been hit in the middle of the road, away from the crosswalk.

The defendant was eventually located later that night when he was pulled over for a missing side mirror on his vehicle. The following morning, a passenger in the defendant’s vehicle reported the incident to the police. With this new information, a detective concluded that the victim had been struck in the crosswalk and that the impact had pushed him into the middle of the road.

Tragically, the victim passed away for reasons unrelated to the accident while the case was still ongoing. A family member was appointed as the administrator of the victim’s estate and pursued the case as a survival claim. Attorney Rakin Hamad represented the plaintiff and successfully negotiated a settlement for the policy limits, resulting in a $300,000 settlement.

Rakin Hamad’s legal expertise and dedication to the case were instrumental in achieving this favorable outcome for the victim’s family, despite the initial challenges posed by the inaccuracies in the police report.
