In April of 2022, a car struck a pedestrian, an active retired 83-year-old lady while she was legally walking through a crosswalk in Arlington, Virginia. Underneath the car, she was pulled roughly 70 ft, resulting in the scalping of the left side of her head and the degloving of her right hand, multiple broken bones, and knocked her unconscious. She received extensive medical treatment, including plastic surgery, and remarkably, recovered well both physically and emotionally.
Her medical bills added up to about $580,000. Paying for this was difficult because the at fault driver’s insurance only covered $25,000, and her own underinsured motorist coverage was $425,000. Most of her medical bills were for plastic surgery, which her health insurance didn’t cover.
Attorney Tom Curcio played a critical role in overcoming the complex barriers of limited insurance coverage and exorbitant medical expenses. He was able to successfully navigate the situation by collaborating with the plastic surgeon’s office to reduce billing to ensure the client received the necessary medical care without overwhelming financial strain.
He did an amazing job to make sure his client received the best possible results, which greatly benefitted her recovery.
